Ali Talib Khayoun and directed by Haider Abdullah Al-Shatri, with sound effects supervised by Asst. Lect. Mohammed Kareem Ali. This work is part of the awareness efforts made by the College to confront the phenomenon of drugs and to raise awareness among students and the community.
The play tells a moving social story that embodies the dangers of drug abuse and how this scourge can change the fate of individuals, destroy families and drive people to commit serious acts with dire consequences. The work successfully portrayed the gradual decline of the drug user, the psychological turmoil, social deterioration and loss of control he goes through, up to the moment of collapse that reveals the scale of the catastrophe drugs create in a person's life.
The play was distinguished by a moving performance that truthfully embodied the inner struggle of the person afflicted by addiction and the tense relationship between him and his family members, conveying a powerful awareness message that the family is the first line of defence in prevention and support.
The stage direction supported the atmosphere of the performance with carefully planned movement on stage, while the sound effects deepened the sense of tension and anxiety, giving the audience a realistic sense of the gravity of the situation experienced by victims of drugs. The work came together as an integrated whole to deliver a direct and purposeful awareness message that can easily reach various age groups inside and outside the university.
The Department of Kindergarten affirmed that this event is part of a series of activities aimed at enhancing community awareness, consolidating a culture of prevention and encouraging students to reject harmful behaviours, foremost among them drug abuse, which threatens the future of generations and the cohesion of society.
The play represents a model of university creativity that seeks to employ art in addressing sensitive issues, out of belief in the importance of theatre in influencing and educating, and its role in building sound awareness among students.
